Find an outdoors event in July at Presque Isle State Park

There’s no absence of choices for events to take part in during July at Presque Isle State Park. For information on any event, call (814) 833-7424.

Lagoons by pontoon: A free, one-hour interpretive pontoon boat tour of the park’s interior lagoons takes place every day in July at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sign-ups start at 10 a.m. at the pontoon boat station at the livery. First-come, first-served, with a limit of 16 people per tour. The boat is handicapped accessible and can accommodate two wheelchairs at a time.

Evening lagoons by pontoon: Wednesdays and Fridays, July 3 through July 30. Registration for the boat’s 16 seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis by phone starting at 10 a.m. Monday for either of that week’s free rides. Meet at the pontoon boat station at the livery.

Presque Isle bike tour: Join a naturalist July 6 from 10 a.m. to noon for a 10-mile cycling tour. Learn about park history during the free event. Meet at the Cookhouse Pavilion parking lot; helmets are required. No fee or registration.

Purple Martin nest check: Watch officials do a nest check and collect data about the birds that return to Erie each spring after a 5,000-mile journey. Join a Purple Martin Conservation Association field biologist and a park naturalist at the Rotary Pavilion at 2:30 p.m. July 21 or at the West Pier at 10 a.m. July 17. No fee or registration required.

Eco paddle: Join a park naturalist July 20 at 10 a.m. for a 2-hour paddle. Bring your own boat or rent one from the concession. Meet at the pontoon boat station at the livery. No fee or registration required.

Full-moon kayak tour: Experienced paddlers 18 and older are invited to participate in a night paddle of the lagoons July 24 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Life jacket, night illumination and a whistle are required for each paddler. Limited loaner equipment is available. Safety compliance will be checked. Registration is $6 payable at the event. Preregistration is required and there is a limit of 20 paddlers. Meet at the pontoon boat station at the livery.

Discover Presque Isle geocache bash: On July 27 from noon to 4 p.m., get in on the search for 12 caches hidden around the park. The first 100 cachers to find all of the caches and return to the pavilion by 4 p.m. will receive a commemorative coin. Meet at Pine Tree Pavilion at Beach 9 at noon to register and receive coordinates and instructions. Entry fee is $12 and participants must have their own GPS units.
